Why accept USDC on Ethereum

Ethereum is where USDT and USDC started and where the most money sits. Every wallet and exchange supports it. Fees are higher than on the newer networks, so it suits larger payments and customers who keep their funds on Ethereum itself.

USDC is a dollar stablecoin issued by Circle, a US company that publishes regular reports on the reserves backing it. Businesses and institutions often prefer it for that transparency, and it is issued natively on many networks, so customers can usually send it from wherever they hold it.

Good fit for:

  • Larger payments, where a few dollars of network fee doesn't matter
  • Customers holding stablecoins in self-custody wallets on Ethereum
  • B2B invoices paid from treasury wallets

How it works with Wolf Pay

  1. Create a payment in your dashboard, with a payment link, or from your server with the API, choosing USDC on Ethereum.
  2. Your customer pays on a hosted checkout that shows the exact amount, the Ethereum deposit address, a QR code and the network in large type, so they send the right coin on the right network.
  3. You get paid. Once the transfer has 12 confirmations (about 2–3 minutes), the payment is marked paid, your webhook fires, and the amount (minus Wolf Pay's fee) is in your USDC balance, ready to pay out to your own wallet.
curl https://wolf-pay-five.vercel.app/api/v1/payments \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $WOLF_PAY_SECRET_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"amount": "49.00", "currency": "USDC", "network": "ethereum", "order_id": "1001"}'

The response includes a checkout_url to send the customer to. Full reference: API docs.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • The customer's wallet needs some ETH to pay the network fee.
  • Base, Arbitrum and Polygon addresses look the same as Ethereum ones (0x...). The network chosen in the wallet has to match the checkout.
  • The amount has to be sent in full: if a customer's exchange deducts its withdrawal fee from the amount, the payment arrives short and is marked underpaid, with the difference shown.
  • Only send USDC to a USDC payment. Other tokens sent to the address aren't credited to the payment.
